rinka Ya. I totally agreed with this suggestion ! Green life was once hurt, it is dead that can not renew again. We should protect them otherwise more and more green life will be damaged and a lot of resources would be wasted.

fionaseah Now that explains the haze we experience almost every year. Tobacco companies flourish in third-world countries like Indonesia that obviously don't see the need to protect our environment. The Indo government NEVER implements nor enforces strict rules on tobacco like Singapore which gives these irresponsible companies to do whatever they want. Do they have to experience the consequences to learn their lessons?

jittelicious I completely agree with the two above statements. In fact, many people are unaware of tobacco's danger to the environment. A cigarette bud actually takes around 25 years to decompose! And despite it being an environmental issue, like xian said, it is also dangerous to people. In the U.S, cigarettes are the leading cause of all fatal fires!

sptammy And to think such a small toxic thing like cigarettes can burn such a humongous hole in our tree population, what more can so many other things we use in our daily lives do. Oh my god those were the corniest thing EVER!! but yup, in order to make songs more impactful to its listeners they should come across as GOOD as songs we hear on the radio.. I mean, whoever listens to trash music??

anlesytx I believe Green music could be of any genre and it is like a win-win situation (to me that is). First, it is something new and original, like a masterpiece. Second, it works like a form of advertising as it collaborates with hot singers like Katy Perry and many more. Third, people pay for the albums and the profits may most probably go to charities and sorts. Lastly, some people may enjoy the music and then for all you know, everyone starts singing the songs and then the songs will bound to serve as a reminder for everyone to do their job in saving the planet. Labeling music as green = Effective!

waltzingmathile I guess there are two sides to this. These albums are a great way to raise awareness about the green movement because people would actually pay attention to these musicians/artiste and the green things that they have to say. But, oh my god, isn't it corny! We have all heard the green cheers during the green march yesterday, and I personally thought it was too corny to contain. And looking around me I saw similar expressions. Doesn't it sound like a gimmick to you: these corporate giants are making use of the current "in" thing, just to make money. Oh it's all too familiar. Oh well, but maybe I shouldn't be too cynical.

jade I think she serves a great inspiration to us, with her great lengths and efforts to preserve the environment. Yet I think the lesson we can gather is not that we must go to great lengths over nature preservation. Rather, we should protect the environment without having others to go to such great lengths. bluefairy Great job! A truly inspirational being that we can all emulate. Who says that you have to be someone of a high status to make a difference? She has set a great example that anyone and everyone can make a difference and save the environment. She went through great lengths to highlight the plight of the river, but we don't have to do that yet. It would help if we threw our litter into rubbish bins so that when it rains, the rain water doesn't flush the rubbish into the rivers. Little acts like this can go a long way! City rivers are some of the most polluted water ways.

codenamebutter Yes that's true. Although biodegradable balloons may be a bit costlier than normal helium balloon. One should make the effort to buy these fantastic eco-friendly alternative to other types of balloons. This is because although balloons are relatively small items, it is normally the case that many are used at once, which means that the collective impact on the environment can be much larger than anyone would imagine.

jade Most of us use balloons as purely decorative items, and they all end up as trash without having any specific purpose to them (other than entertainment). Why not forgo them, and find alternatives instead? For example, forget the boring balloons during birthday parties. You can reuse an old object and use your creativity. That way, you would be able to craft out something unique that you can't buy anywhere else!

jaynetoh I think that jade's suggestions are fabulous. We can indeed come up with other creative ideas and use alternatives during parties or events. I think that this will help to save cost because helium balloons are indeed expensive and useless after the event. If being creative can help save the Earth by not polluting it when our helium balloon float into the sky, why not? It helps encourage us to squeeze our brain juice and come up with alternatives and think of unique decorations for parties and events. Isn't great?

pizzamizza This is what happens when people don't tend to be bothered about such little things like how they will affect those around them, whether near or far. There are a whole lot of things that can be done for substitution. It just depends on us, whether we do or do not want to put in extra effort for all those. One good substitution would be an excellent idea from Jade. Love it and maybe we too should use it in the future.

engkhong i think its kind of sad that WHC decides that remove places from the list of Sites in Danger. Every part of Earth is equally important and we should strive to preserve everything for our future generations. But then again it is important note that we shouldnt be doing our part to save the area just become WHC deems it as in danger. We should be doing our part daily regardless of the state of danger the place is in. We are citizen of Mother Earth and this is our home for us to protect it.

jade This may not be such a wise decision at all. Such places of natural environment and rare wildlife are increasingly being given up for more futuristic development of the country. Removing the Islands from the list may decrease its significance and perhaps willingness of the public to preserve it. Even so, I agree that no matter whether a place is on WHC's danger list, we should all be aware and mindful of the importance of conserving these natural sites.

annabellaftw I think it is sad that we need an organisation to implement rules on protecting the Earth. We cannot expect the WHC to watch over all places in danger of being destroyed. As citizens of this Earth, we should be the ones playing a conscious effort to protect the environment. Surely, you do not go around destroying your own home and I'm sure you do not need anyone to stop you from doing so. Similarly, we should not need a 'Mother Hen' clucking at our actions all the time and constantly urging us to protect the Earth. I think it is time that we are more mindful of the things we do to as we could be harming the Earth. You might not think that you, as one person, could make much of a difference but you can try. Because the people around you can be influenced by your actions and in time, they might play a part in saving the environment too.
