kevinliew i think it is blown out of proportion as we uses all lot of coal, oil and natural gas for commercial and residential buildings which are burned and releases carbon dioxide gas into the atmosphere, as compared to carbon dioxide, methane is twenty times more effectual at entrapping the heat in the atmosphere.The way we use our land is one of the major cause of global warming. Modern agriculture practices that are used to grow cereals, breed animals, grow vegetables and fruits and other foods for human consumption, and all these agricultural practices lead to emission of greenhouse gases including nitrous oxide and methane. so in short i agree that it is blown out of proportion.

wenhui I personally believe that climate change and global warming may be exaggerating, but I do not oppose such a practice. If you do not exaggerate things, people may not want to care or even bother about it. As the saying goes "prevention is better than cure", we must do something to save the earth before things get worse. If people continue to ignore this, it may cause a result of serious deterioration in disastrous consequences. These warnings serve as a purpose of reminder, reminding us that we should continue to play a part to save the planet. Without warning, as time passes, people might forget about the seriousness and thus continue to destruct the planet.

etalocohc As we all know, global warming is a very serious problem the world is facing right now. Most of us understand the serious impacts it will cause in the near future, however, prevention is easier said than done. We should therefore inform everyone to look into and limit the contributor and also done prevention as much as possible. In my perception, I think the rapidly growth in technology is the major contributor to the greenhouse gas concentrations. 'kevinliew' has also further elaborated the contributor. Nowadays, people is stressing on more advance technology, despite, without their knowing the technology is producing greenhouse gas to the air. In fact, global warming and climate change have already affected some part of the world by a little. Example, small islands at risk to sea level rises, longer duration of drought, oxygen depleting that affect ocean life, etc. Global warming and climate change are already grounded with actual fact by scientist and researcher, thus, I do not think that it is blown out of proportion. In a nutshell, I disagree that we are over reacted and blown out of proportion.

pinyi I do agree with Wenhui's point in which that if the issue of global warming is not exaggerated, people may just continue the life that they are used to and continuing to harm the world in terms of the energy we consume and the trees we are cutting down. Educating the future generations would be the most important part in curbing global warming. Global warming may not have a direct impact on us in our lifetime, but we do have the responsibility to keep the Earth fit for future generations.

irfanizzul Firstly,I believe that scientist or the prophet of doom are not GOD!!!!!!!!Only God can predict it!!!!!!However,it is better to take precaution.Firstly, we do not want to live in environment where air, water and land are polluted.No human can survive in those type of place.Secondly,if we do not take action now,things would get worse.For example,just like you mention,there will be global warming!!!Burning forest is not going to solve the problem of cutting the forest.It only make the matter worse.Instead of cutting one,the fire spread to more tree and more tree that are not meant to be burnt are burnt.Not only it create haze,there will be also loss of habitat for animals.Littering too can create air pollution.It maybe a small thing but if people keep doing it,a small issue can become a big issue.What I saying all this is it is better to be prepare than panic when time comes.Human just do not tink before they act.And they only act when time comes.

puzzle Everyone is worry about the issue of global warming but had anyone thought of the advantages of global warming? Everything have their two sided story, even global warming. Global warming causes the temperature of the world to increase, resulted the melting of sea ice, lost of habitat for animals. However, it will benefit those areas that experience extremely cold weather. The number of dead caused by frigid temperature would drop. I not saying that global warming is great but we should not always look at the negative side of the problem. Countries had continuously emphasis the dangerous of global warming but is there a really drop in the emission of greenhouse gases? Statistic had shown that the emission of greenhouse gases had increases annually. Treaty such as Kyoto Protocol and Montreal Protocol had been implemented to help control global warming, however do all the countries had signed the agreement? Only 154 countries had signed the treaty in Montreal Protocol. In order to control the emission of greenhouse gases, everyone should play a part in it. It is always not too late too late to start saving our mother earth.

sinee92 I dont know much about climate change, but Global warming, I seriously do. There's been much talk about it and countries adopting ways to be 'earth friendly' and such. We had been educated and taught the 3Rs, and frankly, i dont think we have done enough to help. What I really think is that only until another great natural disaster will human ever REALLY wake up. It will be like the Tsunami attack few years back on boxing day, only at that time then human will really know the consequences of us polluting the earth for so many centuries....

lim Our environmental-saving campaigns are really worth the effort. Our countless recycling campaigns and saving paper measures reduce the likelihood of global warming. Global warming is the increase in temperature of the earth’s atmosphere, caused by the greenhouse effect. Recycling & saving paper campaigns reduces incineration of waste papers. It is known that incineration (burning/combustion) causes carbon dioxide to be emitted. Therefore saving paper is equivalent to reducing global warming. Talking about other recycling campaigns, e.g. recycling plastic, wood, metal; it reduces greenhouse gases. The reason is because if they are not recycled, they are buried or incinerated. Burning plastic needs oxygen & in the process, produces carbon dioxide & some other compound gases. Technically speaking, those gases trap heat in the atmosphere, thereby causes “warming globally”. Recycling makes conserving the plantation resources easier. Fossil fuels, palm trees, coconut trees & others are not infinite & so earth’s resources are not infinite. E.g. Iraq faces lack of oil fields for extraction.(plastic comes from refining of oil) Not all plants can adapt to climate change. E.g. In Thailand, floods destroys rice plantations. However, the recycling campaigns are fruitless. It is not worth the effort, it does not reduce the likelihood of global warming. Plants & trees can adapt & continue providing endless resources.(given source)The source makes one assume that climactic cycles like droughts, change in temperature are normal ,the earth is still stable. And it is correct to some extent since there is no evidence that man is responsible for the change. In fact the earth’s temperature fell between 1940s & 1970s despite a rapid injection of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. In conclusion, it is worth the effort as long as the recycling can reduce the likelihood of global warming. johnngxe Well, at the end of the day, I'm glad we can all agree that planning for long-term sustainability (via renewable sources) is good. Time will tell if global warming is real, if our green efforts have a visible and substantial effect.

zhenggggg The sad part is that according to some scientists, it may already be too late. Still, the environment is such a complex issue, and nature being so enduring, that I feel it is never too late to do anything. Like chaos theory, I believe that even a small step may have long-lasting and significant impact in nature.

attsayang Well, I think the only way that the environment can be saved is simply by being responsible. We love the Earth, and we will have to talk less but put more into action regardless of the scientists' predictions.

firstbornunicorn I suppose no one can really tell what will really happen in the future, despite dire predictions such as in xxx years, global warming will cause climate change which causes rise of global temperature which causes the polar ice caps to melt that will in turn cause flooding and maybe a MAJOR APOCALYPSE. Well, nobody will know until it comes, right? There is also the theory that explains that global warming and climate change is simply the Earth's own protective mechanism against the ills of human activity. And this is part of a huge natural cycle of the planet's renewal of resources. Just like how centuries ago, dinosaurs that populated the Earth were wiped out and the planet underwent a period of Ice Age. Everything seemed to start anew. A fresh slate. Who knows, history may just repeat itself, maybe not in the near future, but definitely someday. The humans will be wiped out by the consequences of their own activity, and everything will start afresh. It is a point of contention whether our efforts towards conservation now will "reverse" this cycle and prevent this apocalypse from happening. Maybe we will only prolong it, but the end is inevitable. It is only a matter of time. As long as we continue to rob Mother Nature of resources faster than the rate at which she can replenish them, we will be working towards this great purge when our planet home decides that it no longer can afford to house us, and brings upon great floods and winds of destruction.
